I am a new music teacher and I have found that so many students were not taught how to read music in their elementary music classes. I was shocked to find out that many of my 5th graders thought that the treble clef symbol was a music note! I am passionate about setting up my students for success and getting curriculum that is up to date. The books in my classroom were from the 60's-90's and while they have great info- we need to keep up with the times! Thank you for your great article FILLED with amazing information!

Re: Blue Snowball Microphone (USB Mics), Great For Some Audio Applications…What About Latency?

what is the latency ?

Re: Advice For Marching Band Drum Majors: A Dozen Considerations

This post was randomly recommended to me and I honestly wish that I saw it last year when I was junior drum major, it seems to be really helpful. I’m the senior drum major this year and it’s my last year with this band and that’s lowkey depressing but I feel like it’s going to be a good year. Something that helps create a successful year is having a GREAT relationship with the other drum major(s) because you can count on each other for support instead of feeling alone and terrified of leadership when you first start.

Re: Advice For Marching Band Drum Majors: A Dozen Considerations

Reading this now (and seeing it a year later lol), you're actually making me feel a bit more relaxed especially because you sound almost exactly like me. I just got the position of drum major at the last day of school (because both interviews and marching command and conducting auditions happen within a week near the end of school). Thing is, they have a scoring system and whoever scores the highest overall (obviously in all), they will be the drum major and if they have checked that option off (I did it but I didn't expect to be one at all in my whole 3 years of being in band but here I am). What's funny is that I'm also in varsity tennis and it falls in the same season which is well, fall, lol. The only thing that has kept me in both activities is that the tennis tends to end almost always at the start of marching band which is 6 pm for us, and that is why I got scared when I saw my name on the top of the list of officers. I'm dedicated to both but I know a drum major is a role that is more strict in itself. I'm not a musical genius who has never taken music theory at all and I've only been in concert band for a year which I definitely have learned much from. I can read basic to medium level music and played clarinet. That's all I have. It's crazy that the candidates that I thought would be best fit for this position are the assistant drum majors instead, so yeah, I'm pretty scared but also happy I stumbled upon this :)

Re: Professional Development: Visiting Mr. Giannone at Lincoln Elementary School

Thank you for sharing the creativity and energy of Mr. G's classroom!

Re: Five Chromebook Apps/Websites for Elementary Music Class

My school just went 1:1 with chromebooks and these are some great tools to starting using in my general music classroom. Another way I love to use Audacity when preparing for a concert is to Slice and Dice! I can easily remove a verse, skip a section, shorten an ending, make a transition longer, create a medley by fading the first song out while fading the second song in, or add the 2nd part only in certain sections, etc. Breaking sections down and exporting to Explain Everything or Seesaw (as a video) enables me to create practice tracks with lyrics for homework. Audacity is a fabulous tool for so many reasons!! I love reading your posts!! - Cherie

Re: Top 12 Jazz Christmas Albums – (and another dozen too!)

You say you don't care for compilation albums but Yule Struttin' (A Blue Note Christmas) is my all-time favorite Christmas album.

Re: Top 12 Jazz Christmas Albums – (and another dozen too!)

My favorite is “Christmas Songs” by the Eddie Higgins Trio.
